Project Description
Situated in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Tintern is a popular tourist destination, the main attraction being the industrial heritage of this picturesque area. Established as early as the 16th century and continuing until 1895, this area produced the best quality wire in the Country for goods such as textile carding combs, bird cages, fishing hooks and buckles. Due to its popularity Monmouthshire County Council wanted to improve the car parking capacity and welcome more visitors to this attractive and interesting wireworks location, whilst enabling residents to have good access to parking in their village.
The Challenge
The original car park was surfaced with an impermeable, worn and pothole prone crushed stone dust. To improve the parking environment and mitigate downstream flood risk, a SuDS permeable paving system was required to manage and control the surface water run-off.
The Solution
As part of the car park improvements, ABG’s Sudspave 40 recycled permeable paving system with an angular aggregate fill was specified and installed as the ideal solution. Sudspave provides a robust and durable pothole resistant surface combined with a free-draining surface and effective management and infiltration of surface water. Sudspave 40 cellular paving has a unique and secure interlock system which provides excellent stabilisation, whilst facilitating rapid installation.
Coloured Sudspave 40 parking bay markers were put to good use by not only delineating parking bays, but also providing ground signs for EV charging points and the all-important accessible spaces for visitors. The Sudspave 40 system provides a modern solution whilst contributing to preserving the natural beauty of this historical site.
