Carbon Footprint

As part of our commitment to support our stakeholders and construction partners working towards a Carbon Net Zero future in 2050, ABG publishes the embodied carbon data for each of our products and the certificates are available to download via the drop down menu below. The data presented is primarily relevant for our geocomposite drainage ranges; including Pozidrain, Roofdrain, Deckdrain and Cavidrain.

In all situations where geosynthetics replace traditional construction methods, a big reduction in embodied carbon is involved when compared to the transportation and installation of large volumes of aggregates. CO2 savings of between 50-90% are possible, for example:

  • Geosynthetic consolidation layers vs crushed stone drainage blankets
  • Geocomposites for structural drainage vs concrete blocks
  • Fin drains for trackside and carriageway drainage vs french drains

See Carbon Footprint Reduction – ABG Systems vs Traditional Methods for further comparison information.

The embodied carbon assessment of our products is independently verified by Carbon Footprint Ltd, a leading international carbon footprint accreditation body.
The assessment of the carbon footprint of ABG’s products is a ‘Cradle to Gate’ analysis using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP) and details ‘Market Based’ assessments of emissions from electricity use. The results vary for each product and are typically in the range of 1.2 – 3.1 kg CO2e per kg of manufactured product. This analysis includes the embodied carbon in the raw materials ABG uses to manufacture its products, transportation to ABG and emissions during manufacturing.
