National Trust and English Heritage properties across the UK attract millions of visitors each year. A sustainable solution for their car parks is important to minimise damage to the environment and grounds. The increased surface water run-off caused by hard landscaped car park surfaces such as asphalt and concrete means that a drainage system needs to be installed to manage stormwater.
The use of a recycled plastic paving grid provides a permeable surface for gravel or grass car parking areas. Porous plastic pavers allow rainwater to free-drain through into the sub-soil, helping to limit surface water run-off. A grass car park is also a more aesthetic solution for visitor attractions. With the correct construction a permeable paving grid system can form part of a sustainable drainage system.
