The Magna Park logistics centre in Lutterworth is home to 29 different occupiers, operating over 3.8 million sq ft of floor space on the vast 550-acre site. As part of the Magna Park South Expansion Scheme, 400,000m2 of earthwork operations were required.

The enabling works involved a 9m change in site elevation levels and the embankment fill and sub-formation required consolidation before foundations for the new sheds could be constructed. Using traditional consolidation techniques would involve vast quantities of finite drainage gravel.

400,000m2 of 4mm Pozidrain

2,998 tons of Co2 saved compared to traditional methods

31 Pozidrain deliveries compared to 8,000 aggregate deliveries

A total of 86% Co2 saving

ABG’s carbon saving Pozidrain solution was installed at 3m vertical spacings to provide accelerated consolidation times compared to layers of 150mm thick crushed stone.
The Pozidrain alternative allowed for rapid dissipation of pore water pressure, halving consolidation times. Since far fewer site deliveries were required, and with the rolls positioned by hand, this works out much cheaper than stone layers once delivery costs and install times have been considered.
