The Challenge
Due to the popularity of the site, daily bin collections are vital to prevent littering. Unfortunately because of the limited width of the path the council’s vehicle found many of the turns too narrow causing them to run off the path damaging the surrounding grassed area.
To remedy this by extending the tarmac surface was deemed too costly, and not in keeping with the character of the park.
The chosen solution had to be in keeping with the character of the park but also had the added challenge of successfully managing the relevant areas so that the work could be done efficiently with minimal disruption to visitors. Any maintenance to be done would have to fit around both public and school holidays as these are peak times for the parks popularity. The restrictions around the work area had to be minimal to maintain access whilst ensuring visitor safety throughout the contract period.
