Whenever soil is exposed, cut or formed, the risk of erosion from wind, rain or water is high. Left unprotected the result is progressive instability and large amounts of silt-laden run-off. The Environment Agency considers silt-laden run-off as a pollutant and is increasingly inclined to prosecute for even minor offences.
