Recent flash flooding events and the winter’s record rainfall brings the requirement for effective trackside drainage on the rail network into sharp focus.
Engineers in the highways industry have pioneered the way for the use of geosynthetics for linear asset edge drainage, but adoption and realisation of the benefits has been much slower in the rail industry. Rail Engineer magazine has published an article on trackside drainage methods in this month’s edition to bring the issue to the attention of Network Rail asset engineers and outline the benefits of preformed drainage geocomposites for fast, defined flow rates at a reduced carbon footprint.
