We would like to offer our congratulations to James Fryer of ISG Plc for his Gold Award for Primary Education in the Construction Manager of the Year Awards for his project at Temple Learning Academy, Leeds.
Temple Learning Academy features an ABG Webwall, which is a vegetated retaining wall system.
The steep slopes at the site had originally been designed with a series of concrete retaining walls, when costed, these were too expensive for an already overstretched budget. James worked with the school to understand how the outside spaces were to be used, so he could propose a more cost-effective slope stabilisation solution.
On the steeper areas ABG Webwall was selected following the design we developed to meet James’ brief. Webwall is a geosynthetic cell system that allows earth to be stepped back and planted with shrubs and plants, so results in a green faced retaining structure. Webwall utilises site won fill, and better speed of installation compared to other construction options considered by the site.
