Leeds Skelton Lake Services Wildflower Green Roof wins BALI Principal Award

The ABG designed Leeds Skelton Lake Services Wildflower Green Roof was announced as the overall winner in the Commercial Green Roof of the Year category at the recent BALI awards ceremony, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane on Dec 3rd.

The principal award is presented to one of the four shortlisted winning projects in each category, voted for by an expert panel of BALI judges who visited the Leeds Skelton Lake MSA Extra Group Services site to assess the Geogreen green roof project in July.

The green roof features a build-up of Roofdrain geocomposite, including integral protection and filtration geotextiles, a growing media mix and over 5,000 sq m of extensive wildflower turf and sedum planting layers (supplied by Wildflower Turf Ltd). The roof is installed in 11 separate undulating ‘ribbons’ and the sloping sections include a Trigrid geogrid and Erosaweb geocellular containment system to hold the soils and green roof layers in place. The BALI award follows on closely from the project winning Green Roof of the Year at the recent NFRC Roofing awards (sponsored by GRO and won alongside waterproofing partners Cawston Specialist Roofing).
