Gridtex has an extremely high surface friction which interacts fully with adjacent aggregate materials, often providing and replacing the interlock function that typically requires a geogrid. The interaction with the aggregate layers allows the use of a thinner construction depth which offers cost savings on the project, as well as reducing the environmental impact.
Gridtex has equivalent capacity at low strain to geogrid products with similar strength grading. However, the increased ultimate tensile strength provides additional security to the construction. ABG have completed a shear box testing programme with UKAS accredited laboratories to characterise the performance in different materials.
Most engineers are aware that on ground of CBR >3% research has shown that geogrids need the addition of a geotextile to prevent the intrusion of fines which severely reduces performance. Gridtex performs the function of both geogrid and geotextile in one which gives a significant cost saving.
Using Gridtex provides cost effective stabilisation for subbase and capping layers. It can also be used for formation reinforcement of earth embankments, sludge lagoon closures, trench covers and beds.
